In 2013 a train housing legendary artists of all kinds- musicians, writers, poets, chefs, dancers, and visual artists- travelled from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The train, which also functioned as a moving kinetic light sculpture, made nine stops for one-night-only site-specific ’happenings’ curated and documented by American artist Doug Aitken. Aitken's film Station to Station depicts these happenings in 62 one-minute films showcasing live music, film, and art from participants including Patti Smith, Suicide, Giorgio Moroder, Ed Ruscha, Gary Indiana, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples, No Age, Beck, and more.

Doug Aitken
Doug Aitken challenges the limits of art by examining modern life’s complexity, hyper-connectivity, and the blending of humanity, technology and the environment. His diverse work—from film, photography, and sculpture to immersive video installations and architecture—confronts viewers with both the landscape and their inner worlds while capturing moments of awe. Over four decades, Aitken’s oeuvre has been featured in major exhibitions at MoCA LA, MoMA, the Whitney, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, and the Centre Pompidou, and has been honored with accolades such as the International Prize at the Venice Biennale, the Nam June Paik Art Center Prize, and the Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award.
No Age
No Age is an American Independent punk band from Los Angeles consisting of Randy Randall on guitar and Dean Spunt on drums and vocals. They dance around the dualities of their cacophonous sound in two-step, lock, and repeat. Their experimental sounds pose as popular music, born of D.I.Y. culture with a penchant for loud and soft tones that make a physical impact. Since 2006, No Age has released 7 full-length L.P.s and enough singles, E.P.s, compilation tracks, remixes, and demos to fill a compact two-door rental car on labels such as Sub Pop, Fat Cat, and Drag City. Their celebrated, improvisatory performances have been featured at such prestigious institutions as MoMA, MoCA, Tate Modern, McEvoy Arts, Bethnal Green Working Man’s Club, and Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant, to name a few.
